Sara Alguire, LCSW

Sara Alguire recently joined the BOE team as a transplant from mid-Michigan. Born and raised in the Great Lake State, she brings with her a background in Special Education, Social Work and Therapeutic Camping.
Sara began her career as an elementary and middle school classroom teacher, working with students whose learning and behavioral styles made participation in the general education classroom difficult. Her classroom experience includes teaching students with severe emotional impairments, terminal illness, autism and severe cognitive disabilities, ages 2 to 14.
Sara’s public sector social work practice includes assessing and treating dual-diagnosed and addicted Veterans, providing emotional support and links to public services for families with children with severe cognitive and physical disabilities, and direct practice with adolescents and families.
Sara served as the Program Director/Assistant Director of Camp Niobe in Dryden, MI for ten years where she co-created programming for children with ADHD, learning disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders that included Adventure Based Counseling, tripping, music, drama and art.
Sara’s credentials include a Bachelors of Science degree in Special Education, from Western Michigan University and a Masters of Social Work degree from Michigan State University. She holds a license to practice Social Work in the states of Michigan and Virginia and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the National Association for Play Therapy.
Sara plays well in the sandbox with others.
