Wilderness Alternatives Incorporated (WAI) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that provides treatment scholarships to children, adolescents and young adults in crisis and in need of special services. WAI provides its programs through Blackwater Outdoor Experiences (BOE), which has offered intensive therapeutic wilderness expeditions, experiential socials skills programs, and custom experiential programs for special needs populations since 1980.

WAI’s scholarship program enables participants lacking the necessary resources to experience outdoor therapeutic programs in a supportive, professional and prescriptive context.  Scholarships are allocated on the basis of financial need, without regard for nationality, race, religion, ethnicity, sex, or creed.
